Tonite Obama officially became the presumptive nominee.
I'm incredibly happy about this, and moved. When I first cast a vote for Presidency, it was for Bill Clinton. Back then, I still had a lot of hope and belief in our system of government. In the last 8 years, I've really lost that hope.
Truly, it was longer than that. I lived in the DC area during the Monica Lewinsky scandal, and it was a royal pain. I think that's when I lost both hope and faith.
Obama is the first candidate to inspire hope in me since my original vote for a young Bill Clinton.
People who know me know that I love Hillary. I always have. Heck, I sent her an invite to my wedding (and might I add I got a PERSONAL note in return, which shocked the hell out of me). But she's very divisive as a candidate, partly because of her husband. I've never thought she was the right candidate to unite the party, and to unite the country. I think Obama has a slim chance of doing just that.
I'm really proud of Hillary. She has made it possible that there will be a woman as POTUS in my lifetime, hell, in the next 20 years! When we think of female candidates, we now have a serious option, and we no longer have to laugh at Geraldine Ferraro for VP, or other slightly crazy ladies who have mounted small campaigns for President.
Hillary has made history. She's made an indelible mark and she'll be in the history books. Now I need her to gracefully concede. Just step aside and acknowledge that Obama captured the right amount of votes and is the presumptive nominee. It's okay. We'll respect her all the more for it. What I do understand is that she needs her moment. Tonight is Obama's night and she knows it. Conceding now would just get lost. Because she has made history, she deserves her moment in the spotlight where she will bow out gracefully with a Big Speech - one that will probably go down in the history books. I just hope it's soon.
Alright. Just some thoughts. I'm going to watch Obama make his speech now. Like Bill Clinton, this man has a knack for public speeches.
